snip & skinner

so we started a creative group again called: snip & skinner {the name we got, is thanks to a great logo design done by one of our students}. designer-makers need the get-together-time. we had a lovely time chatting, eating and making almost the entire Saturday.

what I love to do, re-booting

tjou-tjou was in a deep sleep for a year now. lot's of things kept me busy and ended up just being excuses to avoid what I love most: creating new products. in the last few weeks I realised that I'm in a battle with myself and I need to get over my blogging slump. talking about my creative process and struggles kept me inspired. so I hope with a lot of little steps I'll be getting back to the maker in me. at the moment I'm busy with a new idea for a product. yay!

my first attempt at crocheting a jersey. what i love about crocheting is that you don't have to stitch panels together. i made my jersey long like a coat.

ek het dit uiteindelik reggekry om 'n trui te hekel. die grootste voordeel aan hekel, vir my, is dat jy nie hoef te sukkel om pante aanmekaar te werk nie. alles is aaneen gehekel. ek het my trui lekker lank gehekel soos 'n jas en dit is heerlik warm.

i fell in love with my friend chantelle's ceramic bottons. look at more of them here. we decided to make a new product for tjou-tjou's shops. what a perfect collaboration. i love our new mug cosies!

my vriendin chantelle maak die pragtigste porselein-knope kyk 'n bietjie hier. ek en sy het besluit om saam 'n nuwe produk vir tjou-tjou se winkels te maak. ek hekel die kousies en sy maak die knope - die perfekte spanpoging!

ek kan uiteindelik smok ook

i always wanted to learn how to smock. this weekend was the weekend. i sat down and tried over and over again. this is the result of my fourth try. it's not perfect yet, but i'm getting there.

ek wou nog altyd geleer het om te smok. dis vir my so 'n mooi tegniek. die naweek het ek tyd gemaak, gesit en dit oor en oor probeer. die fotos hierbo is die vierde probeerslag. dis nog nie perfek nie, but i'm getting there.

i made a nice big basket for my t-shirt yarn. it is too expensive to produce as a tjou-tjou product at the moment. i might produce smaller baskets in the future.

ek het vir my bolle t-shirt gare 'n lekker groot mantjie gemaak. dit gaan ongelukkig nie werk as 'n tjou-tjou-produk nie, want dit werk te duur uit om te vervaardig. meskien sal ek kleiner mantjies maak in die toekoms as julle baie van dit hou.

'n bruin matjie

i'm still playing around with this pattern. the mat is not a 100% yet. but it looks cool in my bathroom though.

ek is nog nie 'n 100% happy met hierdie patroon nie, maar hy lê al op die vloer in my badkamer. 

snoesing onder die komberse

it's getting really cold in the evenings. when my kids are fast asleep, i sit snug as a bug under the blankets with my doily patterns in hand, crocheting some giants mats for the shop. here's a work in progress photo so long.

aarde, maar dit raak nou koud in die boland. sodra my twee woelwaters aan die slaap is, kruip ek snoesig onder die komberse en hekel matte. ek is besig on 'n paar patrone uit te probeer. hier is solank 'n steel-foto vir die agies.

my bags are available in i love my laundry at the moment and are coming soon to my online store on hello petty. the fun part of making these bags are that i never know what colour they are going to be. it all depends on the colours of the t-shirt fabric off cuts that i can find.

my handsakke wat ek uit t-hemp-oorskiet maak voel soos om die kinderspeletjie 'inky pinky ponky' te speel, want ek weet nooit uit watter kleure ek hulle gaan maak nie. die oorskiet wat ek vind bepaal die kleure.

'n oorskiet~matjie

i'm in the middle of a new crochet process. i'm making a little mat for my bathroom from all the leftover t-shirt fabric and wool that i can find. i love the colours so far. will post about the result soon.

the sweet & soutie girls are busy with another love project. this time we are making creatures from left over laundry {like that lonely single sock in the basket}. hilda kruger made lovely badges that we can add as we go {look at a post that i did on her work, here}. i just added a purple backing and viola herbert's done. the ongoing creative process is captured under the heading exquisite creature corpse, so check it out.

my oversees friends, this line is afrikaans and difficult to translate. i played with type and tread and love the result and look.

hier is weer ietsie eg suid-afrikaans, 'n sê-ding wat al weer amper onmoontlik is om te vertaal vir oorseese mense. ek het 'n bietjie met letters en gare gespeel en is mal oor die resultaat.
