snip & skinner

so we started a creative group again called: snip & skinner {the name we got, is thanks to a great logo design done by one of our students}. designer-makers need the get-together-time. we had a lovely time chatting, eating and making almost the entire Saturday.

...

ons het weer 'n kreatiewe groepie begin wat by mekaar kom om saam te snip & skinner {die great naam is te danke aan een van ons leerders se embleme wat sy ontwerp het verlede jaar}

what I love to do, re-booting

tjou-tjou was in a deep sleep for a year now. lot's of things kept me busy and ended up just being excuses to avoid what I love most: creating new products. in the last few weeks I realised that I'm in a battle with myself and I need to get over my blogging slump. talking about my creative process and struggles kept me inspired. so I hope with a lot of little steps I'll be getting back to the maker in me. at the moment I'm busy with a new idea for a product. yay!
...

i n s t r u k s i e s :

...

you need to play around with this recipe. ad more beeswax if you live in a warm area and in winter less. i use 1/2 a cup solid oil like coconut oil or cocoa butter and 1/4 cup of liquid oil like olive oil in summer but the other way around in winter. south africa is also a very hot country so if you live in colder areas you might have to adapt the recipe even more. if the temperature jumps around the tea and oil might separate. just mix it again on a high speed.

3/4 cup of oil
3/4 cup of rooibos tea
3 - 5 table spoons of grated beeswax
40+ drops of essential oil {play around with what you like}

i s t r u c t i o n s :
melt the oil and beeswax over boiling water in a glass bowl. make your tea at the same time. when the oil is completely melted let it cool down for 2 minutes. mix the tea into the oil with a hand mixer at a medium speed a little bit at a time. scrape down your bowl sides every now and then. next you mix your essential oil in. now you mix your lotion to a high speed until it is at room temperature. voila it is done. dish up in air tight glass containers. you need to use this lotion within 2 months because it contains no preservatives. don't keep the lotion in the fridge.

button love

a belated present for my friend. she loves buttons just like me.

...

'n jassie vir my

my first attempt at crocheting a jersey. what i love about crocheting is that you don't have to stitch panels together. i made my jersey long like a coat.

...
